This collection of songs from Crosses, the Los Angeles group made up of Deftones since Chino Moreno, Far guitarist Shaun Lopez and Chuck Doom, deals with residue. It deals with waste and aftermaths. It takes us into the unburdened hindsight that we have all now grown to see so delightfully as an Instagram filter. The look back, at all of the issues and disturbances, is something that can seem like a scene cooked warm and pleasant. The vices and the demons, with the right touch-ups, can look and feel like pretty little tingles that will bring wistful sighs out of a mouth. Moreno can make demons sound like the best dinner guests that we just never thought to invite. He sings the way you might sing as you get ready to toast to better days. These are songs that, when you wring them out, you're going to get dark blood, bruises, old dreams and broken bones and you're going to recognize all of it as being yours.
