You can get dogged by lust and desire. You can get owned by that pestering need to just get that thing that you can't stop thinking about. You can get overwhelmed by that NEED. It's like the guy shouting out at me from two full blocks away this morning - not another person in sight - yelling, "Hey, you got a lighter?" He just needed a little fire to get his cigarette started. He couldn't wait. He felt absolutely compelled by the urge to have a cigarette right then, NOW!! And he was willing to shout down the road to a complete stranger, in the desperate hope that I had a Bic or a Zippo. He was out of luck and it must have really escalated that desperation. He likely slipped into a state of feeling even crazier than he already was.
New York City's Dirty Fences demonstrates what getting dogged by lust and desire feels like. The onset is unplanned, albeit predictable as you know what you normally lust for or desire, you're just unaware of when it's going to overthrow and weaken you - leaving you in a pool of stinky, sweaty clothes, panhandling to the fates and the other suckers. These men are liable to lose a weekend here or there to these desires - doing so happily and sloppily. They'll fall completely off the wagon and they'll love every minute of it. They'll get with babes and they'll drink and smoke themselves silly. There's not much more to want, they think.
