Not to be confused with the Chicago-based group that would win a Grammy Award for Best New Age Recording two decades later, this Shadowfax was based in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. The bluesy, funky rock grooves and energetic horn embellishments, coupled with their lyrics about love and drugs, made them an excellent choice for a Bill Graham dance concert. On this particular "Marin County" night, Shadowfax set a high tone for the subsequent acts - Copperhead, the Sons of Champlin, and Quicksilver Messenger Service.

This recording, which is excellent save for some occasional issues with the trumpet, is historically significant for capturing a band that seems to vanish in the annals of rock history. Based on this recording, it is really too bad that this Shadowfax did not endure and enjoy a legacy like their co-billings from this night did.
