Sometimes I look at my backyard and see the different types of growth that isn't the lawn I'd like, creeping into the mix. They're weeds, different shades of green and with different leaf shapes. They're invasive and when they start getting through, inviting in the dandelions, they provoke me. A surge takes over and I just want to rip them from the ground, strangle all of the miserable and worthless life out of those bastards, but then I look at other yards and it dawns on me that these green little injustices are everywhere. They affect everyone and it's nothing personal. Then I throw these Social Studies songs on and we're better. Everything's a little better. For some reason, these songs are perfect for the comedowns, for those moments when you want to slow the heart a little and get back on that even keel.
