The concept of the downed man -- or the man on the ropes -- is prevalent in this batch of songs by The Kooks. There's some fight left in these characters, but they're looking for some assistance, for they sense some storm clouds off in the distance that are moving their way. They'd like to plan for the worst. They'd like to collect their favors due, or call on those folks in their lives who might make it easier to survive when all the walls are falling in. They're looking for another back that might be able to absorb some of the crashing bricks and drooping parts of the roof. These are the pleas from men who hope that they've been good enough to enough people that some of them will step in and help break their falls when they've gone too far or they've finally fucked everything up.
