1988 marked the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In an effort to raise world consciousness about human rights and of the plight of political prisoners worldwide, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, and Youssou N'Dour embarked on the Amnesty International Human Rights Now! Tour. The tour was an ambitious undertaking that criss-crossed the globe during September and October of 1988, where these artists performed before monumental crowds in Europe, Asia, Africa, as well as North and South America.
The final concert of the tour was presented at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aries, Argentina, which was filmed and recorded, with highlights being aired on HBO and MTV and broadcasted on Westwood One radio and the King Biscuit Flower Hour. Besides the regular cast of musicians, this show also included local music stars Leon Gieco and Charly Garcia as opening acts. This playlist presents the entire concert from that final night of the tour.
