For the second time in a Graham poster, Singer abandoned his signature picture-frame style to make a cool blue announcement for Johnny Winter. With this concert, former Cream bass player Jack Bruce returned to San Francisco with some friends including former Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell and jazz-rock pioneer, Larry Coryell.
The handbill was only printed once before the concert and presents a calendar of upcoming Bill Graham events on the reverse. It measures 4 1/2" x 7 1/16".
There were also some pre-concert postcard mailers printed that were conjoined with the BG221 image (see BG220/221). They measure 7" x 9".
During his Fillmore era, from 1969-1971, Singer created more posters for Graham than any other artist. Singer's posters are notable for his use of collage, incorporating thousands of images clipped from magazines spanning several decades. He developed a format that included a stunning variety of lettering styles, applying them in close relation to the theme or subject of a poster.
