Chuck Berry Poster

Chuck Berry Poster
Rock & Roll legend Chuck Berry played the first of his many shows for Bill Graham at this concert. A voluptuous Eve and serpent coil in uneasy truce, and the lettering demands serious concentration to discern the concert details.
Print Variations
The 1st printing of the poster shows "Printed by West Coast Lithograph Co., SF" in the bottom right hand margin. The background green color varies significantly throughout the run, ranging from medium to dark olive. It was printed before the concert and measures 13 9/16" x 20 15/16".
The 2nd printing was produced after the concert, and deletes the West Coast Lithograph credit. This reprint is substantially lighter in color than the original printing, and it measures 13 1/2" x 20 9/16".
About Wes Wilson
When the Avalon Ballroom and Bill Graham's Fillmore Auditorium began to hold weekly dance concerts, Wilson was called upon to design the posters. He created psychedelic posters from February 1966 to May 1967, when disputes over money severed his connection with Graham. Wilson pioneered the psychedelic rock poster. Intended for a particular audience, "one that was tuned in to the psychedelic experience," his art, and especially the exaggerated freehand lettering, emerged from Wilson's own involvement with that experience and the psychedelic art of light shows.
