By the end of the summer of 1967, there was no question that San Francisco was the capital of the new counterculture and that its music scene was second to none. Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, Big Brother & the Holding Company and Quicksilver Messenger Service were the big San Francisco bands at the time and three of the four traveled to Los Angeles to play at the Hollywood Bowl.
Print Variations
The 1st printing of the poster pre-dates the concert and is on paper stock which show horizontal rows on the reverse. It measures 14" x 20 5/8".
The 2nd printing poster is not on paper which contains horizontal rows. It contains a small, irregular white shape in the turquoise area between the right eye's lashes and green line directly below the word "Bowl". In addition, there is a 1/16" wide dot screen running vertically up the right border. It measures 14" x 20 1/2" and was printed after the concert.
The 3rd printing is on uncoated matte stock and has "W 2021" in the lower right hand margin. It was printed in 2021 by Wolfgang's in a 100 copy run. This reprint measures 14" x 20".
The 4th printing is on #80 matte cover stock and has "W 2021" in the lower right-hand margin. It was printed in 2021 by Wolfgang's in a 250 copy run. This reprint measures 14" x 20".
