Joel Elrod's funky, rich-hued line drawings are vibrant works of art, and this poster for Ryan Adams and the Sweetheart Revolution is an apt representation of his striking and distinct style. In customary Fillmore tradition, this was one of the free posters given to concert patrons at the end of the show, a piece that endorses Adams and his backing band shortly after the release of Gold, his best selling and critically well-received nod to '70s rock.
Joel Elrod began designing concert posters for Bill Graham Presents in 1996, a year after he moved to San Francisco. His complex, compelling line drawings reflect his emphasis in illustration at Northern Arizona University, where he earned his B.F.A. in 1993. Elrod has acknowledged that the freedom of expression afforded him as a young poster artist encouraged him to express his opinions through his art on contemporary political, environmental and social issues.
