The Tibet House was established in New York in 1987 at the request, and with the help, of the 14th Dalai Lama, actor Richard Gere, Philip Glass and others to preserve and present Tibetan culture via education and outreach programs. Proceeds from this concert in California, at which the Dalai Lama himself spoke, benefited the New York operation.
