Herb Greene's work chronicles the heyday of Haight-Ashbury. Living in the neighborhood, Greene worked by day as staff photographer for a San Francisco department store and photographed the early rock scene on his own time. Greene's artistic reputation grew with the musical milieu; he shot the cover of Jefferson Airplane's first album and is considered by many to be the 'official' photographer of The Grateful Dead. After a 15 year respite, Greene re-involved himself in rock photography. He's published two books, exciting pictorial histories of The Dead and has had several successful exhibits and tours of his work.
