The 1st printing poster is most easily identified by the presence of a 1/4" "cut" mark at the top left corner of the reverse side. The original poster presents a rich brown background and yellow/green lettering and was printed before the concert on beige stock. It measures 13 13/16" x 21 7/8".

The post-concert 2nd printing displays a "cut" mark not on the reverse but on the front in the middle of the top margin. It is also printed on beige stock, but the yellow lettering on this reprint is brighter than it appears on the original. It measures 13 3/4" x 21 3/8".

Trained as a commercial artist, Bob Fried came to San Francisco from New York to study at the Art Institute and work as a free-lance designer. In 1966, he began to look at the rock posters that were appearing throughout the Bay Area. Encouraged by Victor Moscoso, whom he met at the Art Institute, he began to create his own posters. He wanted to keep them simple to convey feelings of dimensional space, similar to an acid trip. Fried attempted to convey the feeling of the plasticity of time that was his experience on LSD.
